SOLIDAGO (sä-lə-dā-(,)gō) = to make whole.
Solidago is the genus term for the plants more commonly known as goldenrods. It is also the word used in Italy to refer to these herbs. Mostly native to North America, different species of Solidago are often seen by runners along roadsides in late summer and early fall. Solidago comes from the Latin solida (whole) and ago (to make) and means, therefore, "to make whole," a reference to the plants' healing properties. So many of the reasons we run can perhaps also be summed up by this idea: to make ourselves whole.
Solidago, with their bold yellow flowers, are sometimes found growing alongside bright purple flowers such as asters. The scientific reason for this pairing is that, together, the two complementary colors attract more pollinators. The other reason? Just that the pairing is beautiful. At Solidago Running we likewise believe in both the science and art of running, in smart training and in the potential of the human spirit.
